The Verdict
After that email and more surfing of the web, I think I’m going to have to go with the Toyota Van Wagon. Although not as cute (pretty ugly actually) as the VWs, they really are the most reliable thing to get around in…especially if that means driving through the Americas. Who knows, maybe I can give this car some soul and turn it into a sweet campervan. Now I just have to find one out...

An e-mail from a VW enthusiast
Hi, I’ve been looking for a RAV4 or CRV—highly reliable vehicles, saw your ad and noticed you’re looking to buy a VW bus or another Toyota. I sold my second bus last summer, it was a Eurovan camper, before that a Vanagon. I’m in the process of selling my Beetle now. Can I just say, go with the Toyota!!! VW’s are adorable and great campermobiles, but extrememly high...

Choosing a Van Cont. ...
Been checking out the Toyota Hiaces. I’m not quite convinced an Astro Van is the best bet just because it’s cheaper than a VW. I love my Toyota and think a Hiace is the way to go— reliable, last forever, and similar set up to the VW vans as well as mpg. The Toyota is much cheaper as well, just harder to find … look at how cool!

Vandwelling 101: Choosing your van
This blog has helped me a great deal with vehicle options, pros/cons of each, and useful tips for converting. Cheap RV Living: Blog Of course, my first instinct was any VW bus (little miss sunshine!), but for being 30+ yrs old, they are quite expensive pieces of metal. If you’re looking to resell then maybe it’s the van for you, but they seem to be just as reliable as a cheap...

Well...
…I’m back. As much as I have grown to hate what tumblrs have become (outlets for all sorts of vanity), I still believe mine will benefit myself and others that are interested in the topics I choose to write about. You can expect travel, current affairs, maybe a few things in between. If nothing else, maybe I’ll broaden a few horizons. This was originally what Dom and I used for...
